5 Drum Machine Samples You Must Have In Your Sound Library

Drum samples are at the heart of every producers sample library. With out the right drum sounds your beats will not have any punch.

Before the days of endless sampling time, hard drive space and DAWs hip hop producers made beats with drum machines. Drum machines were pattern based sequencers along with a set of drum kits or drum samples. The producer would program the drum sounds in step mode and then use MIDI to sync the device with other synths and recording devices. Drum machines were made by all the big companies including Roland, Korg, Akai, Yamaha, and Casio and more. As time went on the line between drum machine and sampler begin to blur more and more.  The samples in these drum machines have been used in countless hit records and still be in every producers sound library. These are the must have Drum Machine Samples, most of them can be found on the internet since they are sold old.

1. Roland TR808

2. Roland TR909

The 808 Kick Drum and snare drums and hats are foundation for so many different genres of music from pop and dance to hip hop. In recent years the south has transformed hip hop with use of the TR808 and the TR909. Fast running hats, stuttering snare drums and booming trunk exploding bass can all be found in these two machines. These two machines are so popular that most keyboards, sound modules, drum machines and DAW include a sound kit based on these orginals. The sound of a perfectly tuned 808 kick drum will beef up the bass on any track.

3. EMU SP1200
The EMU SP1200 like the Akai MPC thart would come later was a sampler with included sounds. What made this drum machine special was the grit. 12 Bit sampling gave this machine a gritty sounds nothing else could match. For many years the EMU SP1200 was the machine behind legendary producer lid Pete Rock.

4. Linn Drum
This was one of the drum machines that defined the sound of the 80s. It would also pave the way for Roger Linn to work on the Akai MPC series

5. Akai MPC2000
The Akia MPC2000 is the most recent of the drum machines listed and although it is most commonly recognized as a sequencer and sampler, many people forget that the MPC came with a factory set of sounds that was very extensive and good.

Each of these classic machines had samples that could be used by themselves but more importantly they are excellent sources to beef up more modern drum kits in todays virtual instruments, sound modules and DAW.

good stuff man, never realized the 2000 had drum sounds that came with it. I think the 808 and 909 are probably the easiest to find.
